Oyo Police Recover Stolen Uber, Combat Rising Wave of Robberies Targeting Drivers

-

The Oyo State Police Command has recovered a stolen Toyota Corolla as part of a targeted operation against a recent surge in armed robberies targeting ride-hailing drivers in the state.

The silver vehicle, with Lagos registration LSR 893CX, was located by the command’s Anti-Robbery Squad following an intensified investigation into the attacks.

According to the Command, the operation follows an alarming increase in reports of armed assailants attacking drivers at gunpoint, stealing their vehicles and personal effects. The growing threat prompted the case to be escalated from the divisional level to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a coordinated response.

“Acting on gathered intelligence, the Anti-Robbery Squad launched extensive surveillance and tracking operations, which led to the successful recovery of the vehicle,” a statement from the Command noted.

The State Commissioner of Police affirmed the force’s commitment to public safety. “This recovery reflects our determination to confront crime proactively,” the Commissioner stated. “We are dedicated to protecting our citizens and ensuring that those responsible for these criminal acts are brought to justice.”

The Command is urging the public to remain vigilant and report any information related to these robberies or other suspicious activities.
