The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant operational breakthroughs in separate security operations, rescuing kidnapped victims and arresting a suspected cult member while recovering firearms and ammunition.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the developments in a statement issued in Asaba, reaffirming the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Edafe said police operatives successfully rescued four persons who were abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Ewu–Ajekuta Road.
“On February 2, 2026, at about 9:30 p.m., five armed men suspected to be kidnappers blocked the Ewu–Ajekuta Road and forcefully abducted four occupants of a Toyota Sienna vehicle,” he stated.
According to him, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Otu-Jeremi swiftly mobilised officers following a distress call and collaborated with other security agencies and members of the Ewu community to pursue the suspects.
“The sustained and coordinated effort led to the successful rescue of all four victims, who were immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention. Two expended 7.5mm ammunition were recovered from the scene, while manhunt operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” Edafe added.
In a separate operation, the police arrested a suspected cultist during a raid on a gathering in Ibusa.
Edafe explained that operatives of the Ibusa Division acted on credible intelligence and raided a suspected cult meeting at Anioma Garden, Ugboli Quarters, Ibusa, on February 3, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m.
“During the operation, one suspect, identified as Michael Ayauze, was arrested. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of one English Beretta pistol, one live round of ammunition, and assorted charms,” he said.
He added that other suspects fled the scene upon sighting the police, noting that efforts were underway to apprehend them.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, reiterated the command’s determination to tackle kidnapping, cultism, and other violent crimes in the state.
“The Commissioner of Police urges members of the public to remain calm and vigilant while continuing to support the police by providing credible information through established channels,” Edafe stated.
