Families of Slain Owode-Onirin Traders Seek Justice as Police Dismiss Four Officers Over Killings

-

The grief of families of seven traders killed during a violent clash at Owode-Onirin in Lagos may be edging closer to justice after the Lagos State Police Command confirmed the dismissal of four officers linked to the incident.

The officers were dismissed following their alleged involvement in the tragic killings that occurred during a confrontation between traders and suspected landgrabbers in August 2025.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Olohundare Jimoh, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the Ikeja Police Officers’ Mess, assuring the public that investigations into the incident are nearing completion and that those responsible will face prosecution.

According to him, the dismissed officers were allegedly brought from Nasarawa State by the principal suspect, identified as Ariori and were involved in the unlawful killings.

Jimoh said the police had made significant progress in the investigation, stressing that the matter had not been abandoned despite public concern.

“The matter has not been swept under the carpet, and we want the public and all the families of the victims to know that nobody can stop us from ensuring that justice is done,” he said.

He added that forensic evidence, including ballistic analysis and autopsy reports, is guiding the prosecution process.

“We will leave no stone unturned and will not be intimidated by anyone. All suspects will be prosecuted, and the courts remain open to hear every case,” Jimoh stated.

The commissioner said about 98 per cent of the investigation had been completed and reassured residents that the police would continue taking necessary actions to maintain security across Lagos.

He also urged traders and residents to remain vigilant while cooperating with security agencies.

The killings occurred in the Owode Onirin area of Lagos during a violent clash involving traders and suspected landgrabbers, an incident that left families devastated and sparked public outrage over the loss of lives.

For many of the victims’ relatives and colleagues, the hope now is that the ongoing prosecution will bring long-awaited justice and closure. #Securitynewsalert.com
