Delta Police Records Recovers Drugs Hidden in Light Bulbs, Murder Weapon

-

The Delta State Police Command has recorded major operational successes, intercepting hard drugs ingeniously concealed in energy-saving bulbs and recovering a firearm linked to a murder and cultism case.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operations were carried out through intelligence-led policing on April 13, 2026.

Edafe said operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol stationed along the Onicha-Ugbo/Ewohimi Road intercepted a Sienna bus conveying passengers to the northern part of the country at about 8:45 a.m.

“The vehicle, driven by one Osuke Stephen, male, aged 47 years, was subjected to a routine but intelligence-informed search,” he said.

“During the search, officers uncovered illicit substances carefully concealed inside electric energy bulbs.”

He disclosed that exhibits recovered included 490 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine and four grams of weeds suspected to be “loud,” a strain of cannabis.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the substances were being transported to Abuja. Efforts to arrest other suspects linked to the offence are ongoing,” Edafe added.

In a related development, the Command also recorded a breakthrough in an ongoing investigation into conspiracy, cultism, and murder.

Edafe said that at about 8:45 p.m. on the same day, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team, acting on credible intelligence, recovered a pump-action gun with three rounds of live cartridges abandoned at the Ekigbo area of Ughelli.

“The recovery is connected to an earlier case in which three suspects have been arrested, charged to court, and remanded in prison custody for the murder of one Alex Adanike, which occurred on 15 January 2026 in Ughelli,” he said.

He further revealed that intelligence indicated that a suspect, identified as Eddy Onose, currently at large, had owned the firearm before abandoning it upon realising he was being trailed.

“The suspect is also linked to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as ‘Aro Baggar’,” Edafe stated, adding that efforts were ongoing, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, to apprehend the fleeing suspect and recover additional evidence.

Reacting to the developments, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling crime through intelligence-driven operations. #Securitynewsalert.com
