Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have intercepted a massive haul of contraband, including military uniforms and suspected narcotics, at a major exit point out of Lagos State.
The breakthrough was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Tijani Fatai, who disclosed that the strategic operation was executed successfully following a tip-off.
“Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted an unregistered MAN diesel truck at the exit point of Lagos State conveying forty-seven sacks of military camouflage uniforms and eighty cartons of drugs suspected to be illicit substances,” Commissioner Fatai stated.
The police chief noted that four suspects were apprehended during the sting operation and are currently in police custody.
According to intelligence reports, the unauthorised military gear was bound for another region of the country, raising potential security concerns.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the military camouflage uniforms were allegedly being transported to the Eastern part of the country,” Fatai revealed.
The Lagos State Police Command is now working to trace the wider network behind the dangerous cargo. Commissioner Fatai emphasised that security agencies are determined to root out all individuals connected to the shipment.
“Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, ownership, and intended recipients of the recovered items, as well as the extent of the suspects’ involvement,” Fatai said.
He assured the public that law enforcement will maintain momentum on the case, adding, “Efforts are also ongoing to apprehend other persons connected with the criminal act.”
Further details regarding the identity of the suspects and the exact chemical composition of the seized drugs are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
