Troops Neutralise Armed Gunmen in Plateau Ambush Operation

-

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have neutralised two gunmen during a coordinated ambush operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The operation, which targeted criminal elements operating around the Marit general area, was carried out on the evening of Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at about 7:49 p.m., near Doruwa Babuje, following credible intelligence on the movement of suspected attackers.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the suspects were known for terrorising local communities through violent attacks, sexual assault, and armed robbery.

“Upon sighting the criminals, troops sprang a successful ambush on the marauders. In the ensuing firefight, two gunmen were neutralised, while several others fled into the surrounding bushes under the cover of darkness,” Oteh said.

He added that troops conducted a search of the area and recovered one locally fabricated rifle, five rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, a cutlass, a jackknife, and a mobile phone.

Oteh further stated that troops have remained deployed in the Marit and Lajam villages to ensure the continued safety of residents, noting that efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

“Operation ENDURING PEACE remains committed to its mandate of protecting the lives and property of all law-abiding citizens and urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the nearest security formation,” he said.
