The Delta State Police Command has recorded breakthroughs in its fight against crime, including the arrest of suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, traffickers, and drug dealers, alongside the recovery of firearms and illicit substances.

Speaking during a first-quarter press briefing in Asaba, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniya, said the command had intensified proactive and intelligence-driven policing to make the state “hot for criminals.”
“The command under my leadership has continued to make Delta State hot for criminals through continuous proactive and intelligence-driven policing,” Oyeniya said. “We have recorded immense success in the fight against violent crime and criminality.”
The police boss disclosed that operatives arrested multiple suspected kidnappers and rescued victims in separate operations across the state.
He said on April 24, 2026, operatives arrested two suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate operating along the Ughelli–Warri Road.
“Further interrogation led to the arrest of another suspect, and one AK-47 rifle loaded with thirty-six rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered,” he stated.
In another operation on April 9, 2026, police operatives, in collaboration with the military, rescued two female victims after a gun battle with suspected kidnappers along the Obulu-Uku axis.
“The operatives responded professionally, resulting in the rescue of two female victims, while members of the kidnapping syndicate were fatally wounded,” Oyeniya said, adding that ₦4.5 million ransom and an AK-47 rifle were recovered.
Similarly, three kidnapped victims were rescued in Issele-Uku following a coordinated operation involving the police, military, vigilantes, and local hunters.
The Commissioner also announced the arrest of two suspected armed robbers linked to burglary attacks in Asaba and its environs.
“The suspects were arrested during a stop-and-search operation and were found in possession of stolen phones and laptops,” he said, noting that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other gang members.
Oyeniya revealed the arrest of two suspected human traffickers linked to a disturbing case involving a 19-year-old victim.
“Medical examination revealed that the traffickers removed the victim’s womb without her consent before returning her to Nigeria,” he disclosed. “The suspects are currently in custody while the investigation continues.”
The command also intercepted hard drugs concealed in unusual items.
“Illicit substances suspected to be cocaine were carefully concealed inside electric energy bulbs,” Oyeniya said, adding that the drugs were being transported to Abuja for distribution.
Providing an update on prosecution, the police chief said: “From January 2026 to date, the command has charged 455 cases to court and successfully prosecuted 205, while 250 cases are ongoing.”
Oyeniya reaffirmed the command’s commitment to discipline and accountability within the force.
“Discipline is not optional; it is the foundation upon which effective policing and public trust are built,” he said, warning that erring officers would be sanctioned.
He also raised concerns over rising drug abuse and warned that the police would continue to dismantle drug networks across the state.
The Commissioner cautioned against violence in land disputes, stressing that such matters remain civil issues.
“The command will not tolerate any individual or group that employs violence in land-related matters. Aggrieved parties should seek redress in court and not resort to self-help,” he advised.
He called on residents to continue supporting the police with credible information.
“We must jointly safeguard our communities and build a safer, more secure environment for all,” Oyeniya added. #Securitynewsalert.com
