The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, has called for stronger collaboration between the Police and the Judiciary to enhance justice delivery and maintain law and order across the state.
CP Oyeniyi made the call on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Delta State Chief Judge, Theresa Obiajulu Ogochukwu Diai, as part of efforts to deepen institutional cooperation within the criminal justice system.
Speaking during the visit, the police commissioner stressed that the Police and the Judiciary play “critical and complementary roles” in the administration of justice, noting that effective collaboration between both institutions was essential in combating crime and ensuring public safety.
“The Police fully understand and appreciate the vital role of the Judiciary in upholding justice, fairness and the rule of law,” Oyeniyi said.
He acknowledged that operational shortcomings may occasionally arise within police duties but warned against allowing such issues to create friction between the two institutions.
“Criminals will only benefit when the Police and the Judiciary are divided over technicalities,” he stated, while appealing for continued understanding, cooperation and mutual support in the fight against crime and criminality in Delta State.
The commissioner also commended the existing cordial relationship between the Delta State Police Command and the Judiciary, stressing that both institutions share the common objective of reducing crime and sustaining peace across the state.
Responding, Justice Diai appreciated the commissioner for the visit and expressed confidence that his leadership style would further strengthen ties between the Police and the Judiciary.
She noted that improved collaboration between both institutions would enhance the administration of justice in Delta State.
The meeting also featured discussions on security, prosecution, judicial processes and other areas of institutional cooperation aimed at promoting safety and effective justice delivery in the state.
