The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ola Olukoyede, has described the fight against economic and financial crimes and other acts of corruption as a generational obligation that transcends even patriotic duty.
Olukoyede made this known on Monday, May 25, 2026, in Abuja, while addressing postgraduate students of the University of Jos on a study tour of the Commission’s headquarters.
Speaking through the Head of Media & Publicity and Commission Spokesperson, Deputy Commander Dele Oyewale, the EFCC boss stressed that the prospects of future generations depended on tackling corruption and breaking its hold entirely.
“For us, fighting corruption is not just about enforcing the law, not just a patriotic duty — it is a generational obligation,” he said.
Olukoyede urged the students to see themselves as key stakeholders in the anti-corruption struggle, calling on them to serve as change agents in their respective communities. He also called on all Nigerians to embrace the fight against corruption as a collective responsibility aimed at securing a better future for generations to come.
On cybersecurity, EFCC Inspector Kayode Eniola described it as the careful safeguarding of computers, phones, and other electronic devices and data from unauthorised access. She outlined various dimensions of the field — including network security, application security, information security, cloud security, and cyber forensics — emphasising that all aspects require vigilance against online manipulation.
The Head of the Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, Assistant Commander of the EFCC II Aisha Mohammed, reiterated the Commission’s three-pronged mandate of prevention, investigation, and prosecution.
Mohammed noted that the Commission carries out preventive activities through public enlightenment and collaboration with schools, tertiary institutions, trade unions, professional groups, motor parks, and other public institutions. She added that the EFCC investigates petitions and intelligence reports submitted to it before proceeding with prosecution where warranted.
