A Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Kubwa, Abuja, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, heard the case of a man arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly parading himself as an operative of the anti-graft agency.
The defendant, Salifu Olije Mustapha, was brought before Justice A.I. Akobi on a four-count charge bordering on impersonation and misrepresentation.
According to the charge, Mustapha, sometime in March 2026, while falsely presenting himself as a Nigerian Air Force officer, aided two other suspects Abubakar, now at large, and Haruna Mamuda, currently under investigation by another law enforcement agency by conveying them in EFCC operational uniforms inside a Toyota Corolla with Registration Number KTU399GT to Sheriff Plaza, Wuse II, Abuja, where they allegedly defrauded unsuspecting members of the public.
He was also separately charged with impersonating a public servant by falsely presenting himself as a Nigerian Air Force officer and, in that assumed character, defrauding members of the public, an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Act.
Mustapha pleaded guilty to all four counts when the charges were read to him in open court. Following the guilty plea, prosecution counsel R.U. Adaga urged the court to convict and sentence the defendant accordingly.
Justice Akobi thereafter adjourned the matter to June 1, 2026, for sentencing.
The EFCC said Mustapha was arrested by its operatives following actionable intelligence linking him to the impersonation of commission officers.
