Police, Amotekun Recover Firearm, Arrest Suspected Cult Member in Oyo Raid

-

Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command’s Anti-Cultism Unit, in collaboration with personnel of the Amotekun Corps, have arrested a 21-year-old suspected cult member and recovered a locally made firearm during an intelligence-led operation in Efon.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the coordinated raid was carried out in the Ita Baale area of Ogbori, Efon, following credible intelligence.

The suspect, identified as Salami Obisesan, was apprehended during the operation. Security operatives recovered a cut-to-size locally made firearm from his possession.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly obtained the weapon from a friend who is currently serving a prison sentence at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

Police further disclosed that Obisesan admitted to being a member of the Neo Black Movement, popularly known as Black Axe.

The suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and to identify other individuals who may be linked to the case.

The recovered firearm has been retained as an exhibit.

The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating cultism, illegal possession of firearms and other criminal activities across the state. The command also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support crime prevention, detection and the arrest of criminal elements.
