IGP Disu Visits Niger State, Vows Intensified Rescue Operations After Borgu Attack

-

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Saturday paid a working visit to Niger State to assess the security situation and review ongoing rescue operations following the recent attack and abduction of worshippers in communities within the Dekara District of Borgu Local Government Area.

The IGP first visited the Niger State Government House, where he was received by Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba, standing in for Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, alongside the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Barr. Maurice Bello Magaji.

Disu conveyed condolences from the Nigeria Police Force to the state government, the affected communities, and the families of the victims. He assured them that recovering the abducted persons safely and arresting those responsible remain the top priorities of the ongoing operation.

The Inspector-General commended the Commissioner of Police for Niger State, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, for the command’s swift response and consistent situation reporting. He also thanked the state government for its continued support to the police, citing the provision of operational vehicles, repairs to armoured personnel carriers, and welfare assistance for officers.

Addressing officers of the Niger State Police Command directly, IGP Disu urged them to sustain intelligence-led, professionally coordinated operations while keeping the safety of victims and affected communities a priority. He pledged continued support from Force Headquarters to strengthen the command’s logistics, mobility, intelligence capacity, and training.

He further directed the command to deepen coordination with other agencies and engage more closely with communities, stressing that effective intelligence gathering and rapid response rely on strong partnerships with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders.

In his response, the Deputy Governor commended the IGP for visiting personally to assess the situation and reinforce the response effort, and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting security agencies in their work to protect lives, restore peace, and secure the release of the victims.

As part of the visit, the IGP also met with the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Dr Umar Farouk Bahago, CON, to commiserate with the emirate and discuss strengthening cooperation with traditional institutions on intelligence gathering, community engagement, and broader peace-restoration efforts across the state.

The Nigeria Police Force said it remains resolute in its commitment to rescue the abducted victims, protect communities, and bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice.
