Another Massacre: A Father’s Grief, Escalating Statistics the World Ignores

The true scale of the violence haunting Nigeria’s Christian communities was laid bare this week in a harrowing firsthand account from the front lines of the crisis. Eric Hovind, speaking after a recent interview with Brad from the organization Across Nigeria, described a landscape of escalating tragedy that mainstream outlets have largely overlooked.

The reality of the situation hit home during a single, devastating day of service. “Today, he buried 14 Christians in a mass grave,” Hovind reported, noting that the victims included two infants and a 4-year-old child. This was not a distant report or a recycled social media rumor; Brad was physically present, assisting with the burials as the community mourned.

The speed of the violence has become overwhelming for those on the ground. According to the report, while Brad was traveling to investigate one site of violence, another Christian community was simultaneously targeted. “He said the violence is happening so fast they can barely keep up anymore,” Hovind stated, highlighting a cycle of attacks that is forcing many churches to move their operations underground for survival.

Perhaps most staggering is the statistical weight of the persecution in the region. Data shared during the interview suggests that a staggering 72% of all Christians killed worldwide last year were murdered in this specific region of Nigeria. Despite this figure, there is a growing frustration among advocates regarding the lack of international media coverage.

“Hardly anybody is talking about it,” Hovind said. “The mainstream media should be all over this. Instead, most people scrolling social media today have no idea our brothers and sisters in Christ are being slaughtered.”

The call to action is now shifting toward grassroots distribution. With a sense of urgency, Hovind emphasized that the responsibility to spread awareness now rests with individuals rather than traditional news cycles. “At this point, we are the media. We are how people find out. We are the distribution network. If enough ordinary people start sharing the truth, eventually the world will have to pay attention.”
