Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have rescued two kidnap victims following a swift response to an abduction incident in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to a statement issued on June 4 by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the incident occurred late on June 3 when suspected terrorists invaded a residence near Solid Rock School in Ijalu, Egbe, and abducted five members of a family, including a woman, her six-month-old baby and three others.
The Army said troops, acting on a distress report, immediately mobilised alongside members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) and launched a pursuit operation along the kidnappers’ escape route.
The sustained pressure mounted by the security team reportedly forced the abductors to abandon one of the victims, Mrs Adekemi Idowu, and her infant child near the Oro axis before fleeing into the surrounding area.
The rescued victims were safely reunited with their families, while troops have continued search operations to secure the release of the remaining captives and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing security operations.
Lieutenant Abdullahi said efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims. #Securitynewsalert.com
