Artillery Chief Visits North East to Boost Counter-Insurgency Operations During Yuletide

-

In a strategic move to bolster the fight against insurgency, the Commander Corps of Artillery (CCA), Major General John O. Adeyemo, concluded a high-level three-day operational visit to the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), on Thursday.

The visit, which spanned from December 24 to 26, 2025, was aimed at evaluating artillery resources and enhancing the targeting systems essential for operational efficiency in the region. This mission aligns with the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, focusing on the professional transformation of the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery (NACA) within broader army operations.

On Christmas Day, Major General Adeyemo visited the 37 Artillery Brigade to assess the combat support readiness of NACA units. During the visit, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Charles M. Zebere, highlighted the critical role of the newly remodelled Fire Support Coordinating Cell Work Station (FSCCWS).

General Zebere noted that the upgraded workstation is vital for modern operational planning, providing timely products that shape the battlefield for manoeuvre forces. The visit also featured the formal commissioning of the remodelled FSCCWS at the Brigade Headquarters and the newly renovated Headquarters of the 333 Artillery Regiment.

Addressing officers and soldiers in Maiduguri, Major General Adeyemo delivered Christmas greetings from the COAS and praised the specialist prowess of the gunners in the ongoing conflict. He described the Gunners’ contribution toward achieving positive peace in the North East as highly commendable and urged them to remain resilient in maintaining their current momentum.

The Commander emphasised that the timing of his visit during the Yuletide season was intentional, aimed at boosting morale and reassuring troops that the Army leadership is committed to resolving operational challenges. He further assured the personnel of the COAS’s resolve to enhance the combat readiness and capability of the Artillery Corps for improved effectiveness in the field.

The comprehensive tour included detailed operational briefings at Headquarters OPHK, the commissioning of key infrastructure projects, and direct engagement with NACA officers and soldiers. Each segment of the visit concluded with ceremonial group photographs to mark the successful assessment of the artillery’s role in the North East.
