Borno Police Arrests Two Over Alleged ₦39.2m Cyber Fraud, Recovers ₦10.08m

-

The Borno State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with an alleged cyber-enabled financial fraud involving the unlawful withdrawal of ₦39.2 million from a customer’s bank account in Maiduguri.

The command disclosed that the case followed a complaint lodged on April 17, 2026, at about 1:00 p.m., reporting that unknown persons had gained unauthorised access to the victim’s bank account and fraudulently withdrawn a total of ₦39,208,000.

According to the police, operatives of the Command’s Crack Squad immediately launched a comprehensive investigation, deploying intelligence-led policing and digital forensic techniques to identify those responsible.

The investigation led to the arrest of two suspects on June 27, 2026. They were identified as 23-year-old Ibrahim Alhaji Gaji and 39-year-old Umar Mohammed, also known as Baba Alhaji.

Police said a total of ₦10,080,000 was recovered from the suspects during the operation.

The command added that investigations are ongoing to recover the outstanding balance and apprehend other individuals believed to be connected to the alleged fraud. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Borno State, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cybercrime and other forms of financial fraud.

He also urged members of the public to safeguard their banking credentials and promptly report suspicious financial transactions or cyber-related incidents to the nearest police station. #Securitynewsalert.com
