Defence Minister Commends Nigerian Troops on Peace Mission in Benin

-

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.), has commended Nigerian Army troops deployed on the Peace Support Mission in the Republic of Benin under Operation ATILEYIN ALAFIA II (OPAA II) for their professionalism and dedication to regional peace and security.

General Musa gave the commendation during a morale-boosting visit to the troops at Camp Togbin in Cotonou, accompanied by senior Nigerian defence officials.

Addressing the troops, the minister praised their conduct throughout the mission, saying they had continued to uphold Nigeria’s reputation through discipline, resilience, and professionalism.

“You have continued to fly Nigeria’s flag high through your exemplary conduct and unwavering commitment to regional peace and security,” Musa said. “Your service is a true reflection of the discipline, resilience, and professionalism for which the Nigerian Armed Forces are renowned.”

The minister also conveyed the goodwill message of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, stating that the President was pleased with the troops’ performance and appreciated their sacrifices in promoting peace and strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extends his warm greetings and appreciation to you for your exceptional performance and your sacrifices in promoting peace and fostering stronger bilateral relations between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin,” he said.

General Musa reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening defence cooperation with the Republic of Benin, noting that both countries would continue to collaborate in tackling criminal activities along their shared borders.

According to him, sustained military cooperation remains essential to enhancing border security and ensuring lasting peace and stability across the sub-region.

As the mission nears completion, the minister wished the troops a safe return to Nigeria and urged them to continue upholding the core values of the Nigerian Army wherever they are deployed.

“Remain steadfast in upholding the core values of the Nigerian Army and continue to serve with honour wherever duty calls,” he charged the personnel.

The visit concluded with the presentation of a commemorative souvenir to the minister by the Commanding Officer of Operation ATILEYIN ALAFIA II, Lieutenant Colonel A.A. Ikoro, in appreciation of his visit, encouragement, and continued support for the troops serving on the peace support mission.
