The Delta State Police Command has recorded a series of major operational successes across the state, following the assumption of duty by the new Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola.
The Command said the breakthroughs, achieved through proactive patrols and intelligence-led operations, underscore its renewed resolve to combat crime and reassure residents of improved security across Delta State.
In one of the operations, operatives of the Ekpan Division arrested a suspected cultist and armed robber in the early hours of January 10, 2026. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Gift Ojulowo of New Layout, Ubeji, was apprehended during a confidence-building patrol along Hausa Market, Ubeji.
Police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Labe Joseph, reportedly sighted five suspected hoodlums loitering suspiciously in the market area at about 1:20 a.m. On seeing the patrol team, the suspects fled in different directions, but Ojulowo was caught after a chase. A search revealed one locally fabricated gun and two live cartridges concealed in his trousers.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the Aye Confraternity cult group. Police said investigations are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to track and arrest the other fleeing suspects for possible prosecution.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Raiders Unit arrested a 43-year-old man, Obi Onuigbi Ndubuoso, for alleged possession of illicit drugs. The arrest followed credible intelligence and was carried out on January 8, 2026, at about 1:30 p.m., under the supervision of the Commander of the unit, SP Akanya Agbogha.
A professional search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of 36 bottles of nitrous oxide, popularly known as “laughing gas.” The suspect and the exhibits are currently in police custody, while investigations continue to trace the source and distribution network of the illicit substance.
The Command also recorded success in the arrest of two notorious armed robbers said to specialise in motorcycle snatching within Agbor and its environs. Following a discreet investigation into a reported armed robbery that occurred on December 24, 2025, operatives of the Agbor Division, led by DPO CSP Michael Obekpa, carried out a targeted operation on January 4, 2026, at about 10:45 p.m.
The suspects, identified as Owakwe Chuks, 37, and Bright Moses, 32, were arrested with several items recovered from them. Exhibits include a hammer allegedly used to inflict injuries on victims, a short knife, a brown face mask, a face cap and a handset.
In another development, the police arrested a murder suspect in Ogwashi-Uku following the stabbing to death of a 20-year-old male. Police said a report was received at the Ogwashi-Uku Division on January 8, 2025, indicating that the victim was stabbed while asleep at Poly Road, near Adaigbo Filling Station, at about 3:20 a.m.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Israel Okoyomon, reportedly mobilised detectives to the scene, where preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was allegedly stabbed by his brother, Aliyu Haman, also 20. The suspect was arrested, and the weapon used in committing the crime was recovered. The corpse was evacuated and deposited at Odua Mortuary, Ogwashi-Uku, for autopsy, while investigations continue.
Reacting to the developments, CP Aina Adesola reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to public safety, stressing that the protection of lives and property remains his top priority.
He assured residents that the police would continue to pursue criminals decisively through intelligence-led operations and visible policing to sustain peace and security across the state.
