Delta Police Smashes Kidnap Syndicate, Arrests 5, Rescues Victims

-

The Delta State Police Command has dismantled a suspected kidnapping syndicate, rescued victims, and arrested five suspects in connection with a February abduction along the Warri–Sapele Road.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the breakthrough followed investigations into a kidnapping incident that occurred on February 1, 2026, around Adeje Community. The case was formally reported on February 4 after armed men ambushed a group of travellers and took them into the bush.

Police said two of the victims managed to escape and raised the alarm, prompting a joint operation involving the police, the Nigerian Army, and local vigilantes. The sustained pressure from security operatives forced the kidnappers to abandon the remaining victims, who were later rescued unharmed.

Acting on intelligence, operatives of the Orerokpe Division arrested a suspect, Dafiaga Timothy, on February 4 while he was attempting to withdraw money using one of the victims’ ATM cards at a POS point in Adeje Community. The case was subsequently transferred to the CP-Special Assignment Team for further investigation.

Further operations led to the arrest of additional suspects on March 31, including Samuel Omonigho, 31, in Kokori Community, Ethiope East Local Government Area, and Henry Christmas, 22, in Adeje Community, Okpe Local Government Area.

Police recorded more breakthroughs on April 5 with the arrest of two other suspects—Ovo Wilson Junior, also known as “Sheboy,” 24, in Mereje Community, and Emakpo Ubiaro Abel, 36, in Ughwagba Community, both in Okpe Local Government Area. Investigations revealed that Abel, a tricycle rider, allegedly transported gang members to and from their operation points.

On April 13, operatives carried out a follow-up raid at a hideout in Oka Junction, Agbarho, where they recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with three rounds of live ammunition and a locally made gun with seven live cartridges.

Police said the syndicate is linked to a series of kidnapping and armed robbery incidents across Warri, Sapele, Agbarho, Ughelli, and surrounding areas.
