DIG Benjamin Okolo Assumes Command Ahead of Anambra Governorship Election

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the formal assumption of duty by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Benjamin Okolo, fdc, as the Supervisory Officer overseeing all police personnel deployed for the upcoming Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
DIG Okolo, who represented the Inspector General of Police (IGP) during the Peace Accord signing on November 3, officially took charge today, November 6. He will lead the operational coordination, field deployments, and enforcement of the Force’s Rules of Engagement throughout the election period.

Alongside DIG Yakubu Kwazhi, mni, the DIG in charge of Operations, Okolo participated in key stakeholder engagements aimed at fostering peaceful conduct among political actors. Their presence underscored the IGP’s commitment to a credible and professionally managed electoral process.

This strategic deployment is part of broader security measures approved by the IGP to ensure a safe and orderly election environment across Anambra State. The Police Force reiterated its dedication to protecting citizens’ rights and maintaining law and order during the electoral exercise.
Supporting DIG Okolo in the coordination of security operations are: AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, CP Abayomi Shogunle, PhD, fsi, Commissioner of Police for the Anambra Governorship Election, Commissioners of Police assigned to the 21 Local Government Areas and other senior strategic officers
The Police urged the public to remain law-abiding and cooperate fully with security personnel throughout the election period.
