The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed officers under his command to sustain and consolidate the current peaceful security environment across the state, and has ordered intensified operations to protect schools and public spaces.
Giwa issued the directive on Thursday during a strategic conference with senior and supervisory officers held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess on Agbani Road, Enugu.
The police chief commended officers for their commitment in their respective areas of responsibility but urged them to maintain the momentum through enhanced visibility policing and proactive measures targeting emerging security threats.
“Intensify both covert and overt security operations around schools and other public places,” he told the gathering, stressing the need for robust deployment of the Command’s School Protection Squad to ensure maximum protection of educational institutions statewide.
Giwa also briefed officers on outcomes from a recent national conference convened by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu in Abuja. Key directives passed down included enforcement action against unregistered vehicles and unauthorized number plate coverings, strengthening inter-command crime prevention collaboration through a new “Handshake Patrol” initiative, and upholding professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights in all policing operations.
The conference featured presentations by officers returning from trainings and workshops covering artificial intelligence, fundamental human rights, arrest and case management, and the legal implications of police actions.
Proceedings opened with a minute’s silence and prayers in memory of the late AIG Kanayo V. Uzuegbu, a former Commissioner of Police in Enugu State who had risen to head Zone 9 in Umuahia before his death.
The conference was attended by Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police heading various departments, formations and directorates, alongside Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and heads of the Command’s units and sections. #Securitynewsalert.com
