The Enugu State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered three stolen vehicles, including a car linked to a high-profile 2022 kidnapping in neighbouring Anambra State.
The breakthroughs, announced by State Police Public Relations Officer SP Daniel Ndukwe, underscore a major crackdown on cross-border vehicular crime in the South-East region.
The most recent arrest, Securitynewsalert.com noticed, occurred on February 26, 2026, when operatives from the Central Police Station (CPS), supported by the local Neighbourhood Watch, intercepted 22-year-old Teso Joseph Nsor at the Christ Chemist Roundabout.
Nsor, a native of Benue State who had arrived in Enugu just 24 hours prior, was caught attempting to flee with a Toyota Hiace bus. Police say the suspect used a master key to gain access to the vehicle. Following a swift investigation, the owner was identified, and Nsor was arraigned in court on February 27, where he was remanded in correctional custody.
On January 31, the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad apprehended Ugwuanyi Samuel (36), popularly known as “Sammyblack.” Samuel, an alleged member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, was found driving a red Toyota Camry (Spider) fitted with a National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) plate number.
Investigations revealed a grim history behind the vehicle. The car was snatched at gunpoint in June 2022 in Ogbunike, Anambra State, during an incident where the owner’s son was abducted. The victim was released only after a ₦500,000 ransom was paid, but the vehicle remained missing and was subsequently repainted to evade detection.
Earlier in January, tactical operatives stormed the New Garriki area of Awkunanaw, arresting Chinonso Onyibe John (27) and Nwankwor Uchenna Samuel (41), an ex-convict.
The duo was found with a red Toyota Matrix (Reg. No. AAH 785 AE) stolen in Awka, Anambra State, just a day prior. Police reports indicate the suspects confessed to the gunpoint robbery and admitted to previous operations involving high-end SUVs, including a Lexus RX 350 and a Toyota Highlander.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks. He stated that the police remain committed to combating crime and urged residents to stay vigilant, provide credible information, and adopt basic security measures for their vehicles.
The suspects and recovered exhibits are slated to be transferred to the Anambra State Police Command for further prosecution, as investigations continue to trail other fleeing accomplices.
