FCID Alagbon Probes Extortion Allegations Against Inspector Kalu, Recovers ₦4 Million

-

The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, has launched a probe into allegations of extortion and human rights violations involving one of its personnel, identified as Inspector Kalu.

The development follows a viral tweet accusing the officer of misconduct. In response, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the FCID Annex directed the Commissioner of Police, X-Squad, to open an immediate investigation.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCID Annex, ASP Mayegun Aminat, both Inspector Kalu and a Point of Sale (POS) agent linked to the matter were arrested.

During interrogation, Inspector Kalu admitted that a prior complaint had been lodged against the petitioner by members of the community, alleging acts of intimidation. He also stated that the petitioner confessed to involvement in identity theft and provided supporting evidence. The petitioner was later granted bail and instructed to return to the station for further investigation.

The POS agent, in her statement, claimed that the complainant had approached her to withdraw ₦4 million in cash, which he later returned and left in her custody without explanation.

ASP Aminat confirmed that the entire fund has since been recovered and returned to the petitioner, following directives from the AIG FCID Annex, AIG Margaret Ochalla. Meanwhile, Inspector Kalu is currently facing an Orderly Room Trial.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to professionalism and accountability, AIG Ochalla urged members of the public to report any misconduct through the designated complaint channels. She stressed that the Nigeria Police Force maintains a zero-tolerance stance against corruption and unprofessional practices.
