The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Lagos, Simeon U. Akpanudom, has urged officers and men of the formation to uphold professionalism, integrity, discipline, and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.
Akpanudom gave the charge during the FCID Annex Lecture Parade held at the formation’s headquarters in Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos.
He commended officers for their dedication, loyalty, and commitment to advancing the objectives of the Nigeria Police Force and the FCID Annex. The AIG also praised sectional heads for providing effective leadership, supervision, and operational excellence.
Reaffirming the vision of the Inspector-General of Police for a professional, accountable, and people-oriented police force, Akpanudom directed supervisory officers to prioritise the welfare of personnel, particularly officers who are ill or off duty. According to him, improved welfare is essential for enhanced productivity and efficient service delivery.
The AIG warned officers against corruption, extortion, bribery, and other unethical practices that could undermine the image of the Nigeria Police Force. He stressed that misconduct would not be tolerated and urged detectives to conduct investigations fairly, diligently, and in strict compliance with the law.
He also cautioned against the indiscriminate transfer of case files, unlawful arrests, unnecessary detention of suspects, and the criminalisation of purely civil disputes. Emphasising that investigators are fact-finders rather than judges, Akpanudom reminded officers to respect citizens’ fundamental rights and ensure that investigations remain intelligence-led, evidence-based, and compliant with extant laws.
On public service delivery, the AIG urged personnel to maintain professionalism and courtesy in their interactions with members of the public, adhere to the approved Nigeria Police Force dress code, and project a positive image of the Force through exemplary conduct.
He further highlighted the importance of teamwork in investigations, directing sectional heads to closely supervise cases under their command while ensuring effective coordination through designated team leaders.
Akpanudom also encouraged officers to embrace continuous learning, capacity building, and professional development, particularly in areas such as cybercrime investigation and digital policing.
He urged personnel to remain disciplined and committed to excellence, noting that professionalism, integrity, accountability, and dedication to duty are essential to the effective administration of justice and the continued growth of the Nigeria Police Force.
The lecture parade was part of efforts by the FCID Annex leadership to reinforce ethical policing and improve operational standards across the formation.
