At least four people were killed and five were rescued alive after a three-story building located at Alayaki Lane, Lagos Island on Saturday, 21st May 2022, collapsed.

It was gathered that building crumbled during a downpour on Saturday at about 1: 45pm.

The building was bequeathed to the family members, and some awarded it to a developer who was converting the bungalow building into a three-story building before it collapsed.

Agencies that participated in operations are NEMA, LASEMA, Federal and State Fire Services, NSCDC, Police Disaster Management Unit, Lagos State Police Command, Ambulances, and Nigeria Red Cross.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) boss, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, was a four-floor building at 4 Alayaki Lane, that collapsed.

His words: “The Agency responded to the above incident which was already in violation of building safety protocols. It was discovered that the building had been captured by the LASBCA District Office and served with all Statutory Notices, Sealed at District and Central Enforcement Level.  Further investigation determined that the developer had continued clandestine operations mostly at night and at the weekends.  An unconfirmed number of people are still trapped inside the building. Two people have been rescued alive while another was recovered dead.  Search and Rescue operations ongoing.”
