Governance Reform in Focus as 5th Memorial Lecture for Innocent Chukwuma Holds in Enugu

-

The legacy of one of Nigeria’s most influential human rights advocates will take centre stage next month as the CLEEN Foundation, the Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Empowerment Foundation (ICCEF), and the Centre for Memories prepare to host the 5th Year Memorial and 4th Annual Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Impact & Legacy Lecture.

Securitynewsalert.com learned that the event, scheduled for Thursday, April 9, 2026, in Enugu, honours the life of the late Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma, the founding Executive Director of the CLEEN Foundation and a global pioneer in police and security sector reform.

This year’s keynote will be delivered by Dr Sam Amadi, Associate Professor at the Abuja School of Social and Political Studies. Dr Amadi, a prominent voice in democratic accountability, is expected to bridge the gap between Chukwuma’s historical contributions and the current political climate.

“Dr Amadi’s reflections at the lecture will explore contemporary governance challenges and pathways for sustaining reformist leadership in Nigeria,” the organisers stated in a joint release.

Chukwuma’s work remains a cornerstone for civil society in Africa. His career was defined by a relentless push for justice sector reform and the professionalisation of security institutions. Organisers emphasise that this series is more than a tribute; it is a strategic dialogue for the future.

“The annual lecture series is designed not only as a moment of remembrance but also as a call to action for citizens and institutions to sustain the values that defined Chukwuma’s life, such as courage, integrity, service to humanity, and professionalism.”

The memorial event will bring together a diverse assembly of civil society leaders, academics, policymakers, security sector practitioners, and development partners. These stakeholders will join young reform advocates to reflect on the life, ideals, and impact of a man whose work continues to inspire new generations of public policy leaders across the continent.

The gathering will serve as a platform to interrogate critical governance issues while reaffirming commitments to justice, transparency, and people-centred public institutions. Members of the media, students, and the general public are warmly invited to attend either physically in Enugu or virtually to participate in this important reflection on leadership and Nigeria’s democratic future.
