The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, paid a strategic courtesy visit to the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the agency’s headquarters on Monday.
The meeting focused on deepening the “enduring partnership” between the nation’s two primary security arms, emphasising that a united front is essential for national stability.
During the exchange, IGP Disu lauded the DSS for its critical, though often behind-the-scenes, role in maintaining law and order. He pointed out that the success of the Nigeria Police Force is frequently tethered to the intelligence provided by the Service.
“The DSS is an indispensable yet often unseen partner,” IGP Disu stated. “No major operation can be successfully executed without their involvement. We must maintain a symbiotic relationship to address shared priorities like counter-terrorism, election security, and the rising threat of cybercrime.”
The IGP further advocated for joint training initiatives to synchronise operational tactics and requested a renewed commitment to seamless intelligence sharing.
Responding to the visit, the Director-General of the DSS welcomed the appointment of IGP Disu, describing him as a seasoned officer whose experience is a vital asset to the current administration’s security goals.
The DG also extended his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his recent investments in the Police Force, specifically noting the nationwide renovation of police training institutions.
“The partnership between the DSS and the Police is a priceless national asset,” the Director-General remarked. “We will continue to sustain intelligence sharing and joint operations. I am optimistic that IGP Disu will build upon the achievements of his predecessors to advance the Force.”
The leadership of both agencies identified several critical sectors for immediate and enhanced cooperation. This includes strengthening the flow of actionable intelligence to preempt domestic threats and standardising protocols for the safety of high-ranking officials through improved VIP protection.
Furthermore, the agencies pledged collaborative efforts to combat economic sabotage and organised crime, while ensuring a frictionless working relationship between personnel on the ground to foster institutional harmony.
The visit concluded with a reaffirmed pledge from both leaders to remain aligned in their shared mission to safeguard the country. #Securitynewsalert.com
