LASTMA Launches Full-Scale Probe into ₦100,000 Extortion Claims

-

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has officially commenced a comprehensive investigation into allegations of systemic extortion occurring along the Coastal Road axis.

The move follows a viral Facebook post by ‘Objectv Media’ featuring a citizen identified as Tosin. The report alleges that LASTMA personnel have been intercepting commercial buses and demanding ₦100,000 to release impounded vehicles.

The Authority maintains that it is an ethically guided institution and does not condone the abuse of office or any form of misconduct. Management has vowed that any officer found guilty upon the conclusion of this inquiry will face the full wrath of the law in accordance with established disciplinary procedures.

To ensure a thorough process, the agency has issued a formal invitation to the complainant, Tosin, to appear at the LASTMA Headquarters in Oshodi. He is encouraged to present concrete and verifiable evidence to substantiate his claims to the Office of the General Manager.

Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, emphasised that the agency remains committed to transparency and the highest standards of public service.

“The Authority views such allegations with utmost seriousness. This inquiry has already commenced in earnest, and we assure the public that the burden of proof lies squarely upon he who makes the allegation.”

LASTMA continues to urge road users to report perceived misconduct through verified channels. The agency remains resolute in its pursuit of a traffic management system anchored on fairness, orderliness, and respect for the rights of all residents.
