The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued a female victim who sustained severe injuries, including fractures to her arm and leg, in a hit-and-run accident along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The incident occurred on Monday at the EFF Bus Stop inward Marwa, where an unidentified motorist reportedly knocked down the woman and fled the scene, leaving her critically injured by the roadside.
According to a statement issued by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, officers of the agency who were monitoring traffic along the corridor quickly responded to the emergency. The officers secured the victim from further harm, evacuated her from the roadway, and alerted the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) while implementing traffic control measures to prevent secondary accidents and maintain the free flow of traffic.
LASAMBUS personnel subsequently arrived at the scene and transported the victim to General Hospital, Odan, for urgent medical attention and further evaluation.
Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed concern over the increasing incidence of hit-and-run cases, describing such actions as both morally unacceptable and contrary to the law.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through proactive traffic management and rapid emergency response operations across Lagos State.
“Every motorist bears an inherent civic and moral obligation to uphold the sanctity of human life. Fleeing the scene of an accident after causing injury to another road user is not only an abdication of responsibility but also a grievous affront to humanity and the rule of law,” Bakare-Oki said.
The LASTMA boss also commended the effective collaboration between LASTMA officials and LASAMBUS personnel, noting that their swift intervention played a crucial role in ensuring the victim received prompt medical attention and that normal traffic flow was quickly restored along the affected corridor.
The agency urged motorists to drive responsibly, adhere strictly to traffic regulations, and promptly report road accidents and emergencies through appropriate channels to enable timely intervention by relevant authorities.
