Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, for attempting to smuggle cocaine into Nigeria.
According to the agency, Ejiofor, who operates boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State, was apprehended upon arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, via Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941 on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, following credible intelligence.
He was subjected to a body scan, which revealed that he had ingested illicit drugs and concealed some in his private parts. NDLEA officers immediately recovered 58 wraps of cocaine from his underwear, after which he was placed under observation. During the process, he excreted 69 additional pellets of cocaine in seven rounds, bringing the total to 127 wraps weighing 1.388 kilograms of the Class A substance.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives intercepted three consignments of illicit drugs bound for the United Kingdom at a courier company in Lagos on Thursday, October 9, and Friday, October 10, 2025.
One of the shipments contained 1.74 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed inside blocks of glass ceramics. Another parcel contained 114 grams of pentazocine and 168 grams of tramadol injections, while the third held 48 grams of tramadol capsules hidden in a Vitamin C container.
Similarly, attempts by other criminal syndicates to traffic various narcotics to multiple destinations were foiled.
These included 2.6 kilograms of skunk and 422 grams of tapentadol 250mg disguised as black soap tablets bound for Turkey; 169 grams of cocaine concealed in ladies’ handbags heading to Australia; and 568 grams of “Loud”, a potent strain of cannabis, hidden in herbal containers destined for the United Arab Emirates.
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying anti-narcotics surveillance across Nigeria’s airports and courier companies to dismantle international drug trafficking networks.
