The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that its C-130 transport aircraft has arrived safely in Accra, Ghana, in line with an updated flight plan.
The aircraft is preparing for onward movement to Portugal, with scheduled stopovers in Banjul and Casablanca, where it will undergo depot maintenance.
In a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the NAF expressed appreciation for the concern and support shown by members of the public.
He assured Nigerians that all personnel onboard remain safe, the aircraft is fully serviceable, and the Service continues to uphold the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
The update comes amid heightened public interest in the aircraft’s journey, with the Air Force emphasising its commitment to transparency and operational excellence.
The Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft was detained in Burkina Faso after making an emergency landing in Bobo-Dioulasso on December 8, 2025. Authorities there viewed the unscheduled landing as a potential “unfriendly act,” sparking diplomatic tension.
The crew of 11 Nigerians was held for several days before being released following high-level negotiations between Nigeria and Burkina Faso.
The conflict arose from Burkina Faso’s suspicion of the unscheduled landing, which was later resolved through diplomatic negotiations.
The incident highlights the sensitivity of military flights in West Africa’s complex and volatile geopolitical climate. Still, Nigeria has reaffirmed that the aircraft was on a routine maintenance mission and that all personnel remain safe.
