Nigerian Troops Repel ISWAP/Boko Haram Attack in Kirawa, Kill 12 Terrorists

-

Nigerian troops have successfully repelled an attack by suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists on a military position in the Kirawa area of Borno State, killing 12 militants and forcing others to flee with injuries.

The assault, which occurred in the early hours of May 22, targeted troops of the 153 Task Force Battalion and associated forces along the Nigeria-Cameroon border. Fighters attempted to infiltrate positions held by troops under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) but were met with immediate and overwhelming resistance.

Alert troops, supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), detected the infiltration early and held their ground, forcing the militants to abandon their mission and withdraw in disarray toward the Cameroon axis. Blood trails along the retreat routes indicated that several fleeing terrorists had sustained gunshot wounds.

Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets, air support from the Air Component of OPHK, and partner forces provided coordinated backing throughout the engagement.

In addition to the 12 confirmed kills, troops recovered AK-47 rifles, rocket-propelled grenade systems, a PKT machine gun, and ammunition, further degrading the group’s operational capacity in the region.

Exploitation operations are ongoing to track remaining elements and recover additional equipment. The Joint Task Force said troops have remained at their positions with heightened vigilance.

The Military High Command praised the troops for their “gallantry, utmost professionalism, and swift response,” noting it was the third successful engagement of the week, and urged them to sustain operational momentum. #Securitynewsalert.com
