The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has uncovered and dismantled an illegal “baby factory” in Badagry, rescuing 28 victims and arresting two suspects.
The operation, carried out between Wednesday, April 15 and Thursday, April 16, 2026, followed weeks of surveillance by operatives in the Badagry axis, according to the Civil Defence Public Relations Officer (CDPRO), SC Oluwaseun Abolurin.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, the Lagos State Commandant, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, said the breakthrough aligns with the directive of the Commandant General of NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, urging state commands to adopt technology-driven intelligence in tackling crime.
Keshinro disclosed that the illegal facility, located at Okuju, Ilado, Road 1, Zone 1, Olorunda area of Badagry, was used to harbour pregnant women allegedly lured through a Facebook account. The victims were reportedly deceived with promises to sell their babies to interested buyers for sums ranging between ₦500,000 and ₦1 million after delivery.
He said two suspects linked to the operation were arrested at the scene, while 28 victims were rescued. The victims include 17 heavily pregnant women, one adult male, and 10 children, including infants.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the victims lost her pregnancy due to the harsh and unhealthy conditions at the facility.
Items recovered from the scene include a pumping machine, a generator set, six standing fans, two gas cylinders, a burner, two large cooking pots, five Android phones, four large mats, and assorted food items.
The Commandant condemned the operation of such facilities, describing it as inhumane and driven by greed.
“This is a barbaric act often perpetrated by desperate individuals seeking quick money through illegal means,” he said.
Keshinro added that the suspects and victims have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and necessary action, assuring that those involved would be brought to justice. #Securitynewsalert.com
