Police Special Fraud Unit Boosts Capacity in Crypto Fraud Investigation

-

The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) in Ikoyi, Lagos, has strengthened its capacity to tackle cryptocurrency-related crimes following a specialised training programme conducted in collaboration with international partners.

The training, organised under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Eloho Edwin Okpoziakpo, was carried out in partnership with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) through the United States Consulate in Lagos. It took place at the Sunday Adewusi House as part of efforts to reposition the unit for more effective handling of emerging financial crimes.

The initiative aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to build an intelligence-led, proactive and technology-driven police force capable of addressing modern security challenges.

During the intensive sessions, detectives were trained on advanced techniques in cryptocurrency tracing, digital asset analysis and investigative strategies needed to combat cyber-enabled financial crimes. Participants were also exposed to the structure, usage, regulatory framework and potential misuse of cryptocurrencies.

The workshop featured interactive engagements, allowing officers to exchange ideas with experts and deepen their practical understanding of crypto-related investigations.

Speaking at the event, CP Okpoziakpo stressed the importance of staying ahead of rapidly evolving technological trends, noting that a solid understanding of cryptocurrency operations is essential for effective investigation and prosecution of modern financial crimes. #Securitynewsalert.com
