The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed circulating social media reports of bandit attacks on schools and communities in the Ota and Ifo areas of the state, declaring that no such incidents occurred.
In a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Command described the viral claims — which alleged attacks on Oluke Community High School, Sango Ota High School in the Ijoko axis, Fadunsin Area of Ijoko, Atan-Ota, Agbado, Ifo, and surrounding communities — as “false and misleading.”
“There has been no bandit attack, kidnapping incident, terrorist activity, or any form of security breach anywhere in Ogun State,” the statement read.
Following the spread of the reports, police operatives were deployed to all the mentioned locations for on-the-spot assessments. The Command’s School Protection Squad, working alongside Divisional Police Officers, confirmed that both referenced schools were safe and fully operational, with students and staff completing a normal academic day.
The Command also clarified a separate operation in Kajola-Ilese, Atan-Ota, which had fuelled some of the online speculation. In that operation, 38 undocumented foreign nationals — 19 males and 19 females aged between 25 and 35 — from Côte d’Ivoire were arrested after being found in an apartment without valid immigration or travel documents. The individuals claimed to have entered Nigeria for online business purposes and were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further action.
“Any attempt to link the arrested foreign nationals to banditry or any violent criminal activity is entirely false and misleading,” Babaseyi said.
The Command urged residents to verify security information through official channels before sharing, warning that the spread of unverified reports risked “creating unnecessary panic and disturbing public peace.”
