Oyefusi Expresses Concern Over Lack of Transparency, Accountability in Lagos State’s N3.37 Trillion Budget for 2025

-

A politician and women advocate, Princess Abiodun Islamiyat Oyefusi has raised serious concerns about the lack of transparency and accountability in the recently passed N3.37 trillion budget by the Lagos State House of Assembly for the year 2025.

In a statement released today, Princess Oyefusi noted that while the budget is the largest in Lagos State’s history and holds great potential for addressing critical development needs, its passage raises questions about the level of scrutiny and the absence of a robust auditing mechanism.
“The N3.37 trillion budget represents a significant commitment to the development of Lagos State. However, such an unprecedented financial plan requires unparalleled transparency and accountability to ensure the funds are utilized effectively and equitably,” Princess Oyefusi said.
She emphasized the need for an accountable auditing process to safeguard public funds and ensure taxpayers’ money is directed toward impactful projects.
“There is growing concern among citizens and stakeholders about the absence of clear details regarding how funds will be allocated and monitored. Without an effective auditing process, we risk eroding public trust and fostering mismanagement.”
Princess Abiodun Oyefusi called for the immediate publication of a comprehensive breakdown of the budget, including specific allocations, project timelines, and measurable outcomes.
Additionally, she urged the Lagos State Government to establish an independent auditing mechanism and involve civil society organizations to promote oversight.
“Our state cannot afford to prioritize speed over diligence when it comes to budgetary processes. Accountability is non-negotiable, especially when dealing with public funds of this magnitude,” Princess Oyefusi added.
Princess Abiodun Oyefusi pledged to continue advocating for greater transparency and a participatory approach to governance, ensuring that the voices of Lagosians are heard and their resources are protected.
