The Oyo State Police Command has arrested eight suspected members of a motorcycle theft syndicate and recovered four stolen motorcycles in Kishi, Oke Ogun area of the state.
According to the command, the arrests followed a credible intelligence report indicating that some individuals had motorcycles suspected to have been stolen within Kishi town.
Police operatives attached to the Kishi Division reportedly acted on the intelligence on May 8, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m., leading to the arrest of the suspects.
The suspects were identified as Akeem Kehinde, 20; Rasaq Muhideen, 35; Jimoh Musakiru, 28; Ganiyu Saheed, 30; Iliasu Abdullahi, 25; Owonikoko Nurudeen, 27; Mukaila Ibrahim, 26; and Badmos Awwal, 26.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
He said preliminary investigations led to the recovery of four suspected stolen Bajaj motorcycles from the suspects.
“The prompt operational response led to the arrest of eight suspects who were found in suspicious possession of the said motorcycles,” the statement said.
“Following their arrest, a preliminary investigation was immediately commenced, which led to the recovery of four suspected stolen Bajaj motorcycles in their possession, thereby strengthening the initial intelligence received and confirming the suspected criminal activity.”
The police spokesperson added that the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation and admitted to their various levels of involvement in the theft and unlawful possession of the motorcycles.
“Further investigation is ongoing to identify and locate the rightful owners of the recovered exhibits as well as uncover the full extent of the syndicate’s network and possible collaborators,” he added.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbemiga, commended the operatives involved in the operation for their professionalism and swift response.
He also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for what he described as continuous support and strategic leadership toward effective policing and public safety.
The command urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, stressing that effective policing depends on collaboration between security agencies and members of the public.
