The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has officially lauded the “transformational leadership” of outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Dr Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, while throwing its full weight behind his successor, Acting IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
In a statement signed by Olayemi Esan, Director of Global Communications and Media Relations for the PCRC, sighted by Securitynewsalert.com, the PCRC National Chairman, Alhaji Ibraheem Mogaji Olaniyan, described Egbetokun’s tenure as a milestone era for institutional reform and strategic community engagement.
Alhaji Olaniyan praised Dr Egbetokun’s 2023 appointment as a strategic choice, noting that his transition through roles such as Chief Security Officer to the Lagos State Governor and Commander of the Rapid Response Squad prepared him for the complexities of national security.
The PCRC highlighted several key achievements under Egbetokun’s watch, including the adoption of the “accommodation model” to align the Force with global democratic standards.
The Chairman also pointed to the creation of nationwide contact centres for real-time crime reporting and the significant push for infrastructure and welfare, specifically the commissioning of the Nigeria Police Resource Centre in Abuja.
Furthermore, the committee noted that under Egbetokun, the PCRC secured the property for its own National Secretariat in the capital.
“Under IGP Egbetokun, the ‘If you see something, say something’ campaign moved from a slogan to a functional intelligence-gathering tool that restored public confidence,” Olaniyan stated.
The PCRC also extended a warm welcome to the newly appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police, AIG Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
In a notable revelation, Alhaji Olaniyan shared that Disu has a deep-rooted connection to the committee, as his father is a distinguished and cap-carrying member of the PCRC. This personal tie has led members across Nigeria and the diaspora to view the new IGP as one of their own.
Alhaji Olaniyan described the appointment of AIG Disu as a significant nod to the importance of grassroots intelligence. With over three decades of experience in crime control and security management, the committee expressed total confidence that he will deepen the reforms started by his predecessor.
As the leadership transition takes place, the PCRC reaffirms its commitment to acting as a bridge between the police and the public. The committee emphasised that it will continue to prioritise youth and women’s inclusiveness in community policing to ensure national safety.
