Police Intercept Truck Loaded with Suspected Explosives in Oyo State

-

The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a truck transporting materials suspected to be explosive devices in the Saki area of the state.

The seizure occurred during a proactive stop-and-search operation conducted in response to credible intelligence. According to a statement released on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the vehicle and its contents were immediately secured and moved into police custody.

In response to the discovery, the Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the origin and destination of the materials. Experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit have been deployed to manage the situation.

These units are currently conducting forensic examinations to determine the exact nature of the items and whether they were intended for criminal use.

The truck driver is currently in custody and reportedly cooperating with investigators. Police officials are working to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the shipment. CP Haruna commended the strategic leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, noting that intelligence-driven policing continues to be the Command’s primary tool in preventing crime across the state.

The Command has urged residents to remain calm and avoid panic, reassuring the public that the Nigeria Police Force is fully committed to their safety. Further updates will be provided as forensic results become available.
