Police Move to Calm JAMB Fears, Assure Candidates of Tight Security Nationwide

-

The Nigeria Police Force has reassured candidates, parents, and the general public of adequate security ahead of the forthcoming examinations conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), dismissing circulating safety concerns as unfounded.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, said the police were aware of “recent unfounded rumours” regarding the safety of some examination centres in a North Central state ahead of the exams scheduled to begin on April 16, 2026.

“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to categorically state that these claims are without basis,” he said, stressing that while the police do not act on rumours, public concerns about “the safety, education and future of our children and wards” have been taken seriously.

Placid disclosed that the police had rolled out proactive measures to ensure a safe environment for all candidates nationwide.

“To this end, extra security has been deployed at examination centres nationwide, both overtly and covertly, to prevent any untoward incidents. This includes routine patrols, perimeter checks, and rapid response teams stationed at strategic locations,” he said.

He added that the Force is working closely with other security agencies to monitor and respond to potential threats.

“Any individual or group attempting to disrupt the examination process will be swiftly identified and brought to justice,” he warned.

The police spokesperson further reassured the public that “every measure has been taken to guarantee a safe and conducive environment for all examinations.”

He advised candidates to arrive early at their centres, comply with examination regulations, and promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals to security personnel on the ground.

Members of the public were also urged to ignore unverified information circulating on social media and rely only on official updates from JAMB and the police.

“The Force remains committed to maintaining peace, security, and public confidence in all national activities, including the JAMB examinations,” Placid said, while appreciating the cooperation of citizens and other security agencies in ensuring a smooth process.
