Police Operatives Defy Edo Compol Directive On Vehicle Marking

-

As a response arising from the complaints from members of the public and protests from the civil society over unprofessional conduct by police officers in Edo state, the commissioner of police rolled out operational guidelines and phone numbers to be able to keep track of perpetrators.

Among the guidelines was a directive that any unmarked vehicle must be affixed with a sticker indicating the unit and command of the officers.

However, a particular unmarked vehicle used by police operatives usually seen on Uholor community road off Ekehuan Army barracks and Ekehuan road in Benin City have continually defied the commissioner’s directive by deliberately covering the stickers fixed on the front and back of the operational vehicle to avoid identification by members of the public in the course of carrying out their unprofessional conducts on citizens.

The leadership of the Edo state police command’s attention have been drawn to the practice as the unwholesome habit of the operatives continues unabated.

Is it that the COMPOL has lost grip of his men? Can we conveniently say that all the issued operational guidelines were to save face without expected enforcement?

In spite the protest by the civil society, it seems nothing has changed in the way and manner Edo state police is handling the complaints presented.
