The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced its intention to investigate bribery allegations levelled against Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Emmanuel Aina.
This follows a protest staged by members of the Centre for Human Rights and Advocacy in Africa Network (CHRAAN) at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
The demonstrators, armed with placards and chanting slogans, accused AIG Aina of abuse of office and demanded a formal probe into his conduct. CHRAAN, a civil rights organization, urged the PSC to take swift action to uphold accountability within the police force.
In response, the Commission stated that it would thoroughly examine the complaints and ensure justice is served to all parties involved. It reaffirmed its commitment to holding the Nigeria Police Force accountable for both its actions and inactions, while also calling on citizens to support and cooperate with the police to enable optimal performance.
PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani emphasised the Commission’s recent launch of a whistleblowing policy, encouraging Nigerians to report instances of official corruption within the Commission and other institutions under its oversight.
“The Commission remains resolute in its duty to promote transparency and integrity in law enforcement,” Ani said.
The investigation is expected to commence promptly, with further updates to be provided as the process unfolds.
