A committee of retired Inspectors-General of Police has paid a solidarity visit to the incumbent Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, at the Louis Edet House in Abuja, reaffirming unity and continuity within the Nigeria Police Force.
Securitynewsalert.com learned that the meeting, which brought together members of the Force Management Team, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police and other senior officers, also had several former police chiefs in attendance. Among them were Aliyu Attah, Sunday Ehindero, Mike Okiro, Ogbonna Onovo, Suleiman Abba, and Mohammed Dikko Abubakar.
Speaking during the meeting, Egbetokun outlined key reforms implemented over the past two years. These include upgrading the Intelligence Unit to a full department, elevating the Legal and Medical Units to directorates, expanding Police Mobile Force Squadrons from 74 to 84, and creating new Area Commands and Divisions. He also highlighted the establishment of a Special Intervention Squad aimed at strengthening operational response across the country.
The Inspector-General further noted that the force had adopted merit-based promotions, with more than 141,000 officers promoted, alongside compulsory ethics training to improve professionalism within the police.
Responding on behalf of the retired police chiefs, Abubakar commended the reforms introduced by the current leadership and urged the Inspector-General to sustain the momentum. He also called on officers of the force to support the ongoing reform initiatives.
The visit underscored collaboration between past and present leaders of the police, with participants expressing a shared commitment to building a modern, trusted and capable Nigeria Police Force.
