The Rivers State Police Command has launched a robust security framework to ensure a peaceful and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebration across the state.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command announced the strategic deployment of tactical teams and intelligence assets to high-traffic areas, including motor parks, waterways, hotels, and places of worship.
Under the directive of Commissioner of Police CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers have been ordered to maximise both operational and intelligence resources.
This deployment is specifically designed to provide high-visibility policing at entry and exit points while enhancing surveillance at recreation centres and identified hotspots to facilitate a rapid response to any potential security breaches.
The Command is emphasising a proactive approach by engaging traditional rulers, youth organisations, and religious leaders to foster a culture of trust and encourage early intelligence sharing. SP Iringe-Koko stated that this collaborative effort aims to nip potential security threats in the bud before they escalate.
In light of the festivities, the police issued a specific warning to parents to exercise vigilance and caution their children against engaging in the use of pyrotechnics and fireworks, which pose significant safety risks.
Residents are further urged to secure their homes by ensuring all doors and windows are properly fastened and to refrain from disseminating unverified information that could cause unnecessary alarm.
