“Officers discovered ₦550,000 in cash concealed beneath her bag, suspected to be proceeds from illicit dealings”

In a decisive move against organised crime, the Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspects linked to kidnapping and illegal arms trafficking, following a coordinated operation by its CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT).

Acting on intelligence provided by the Force Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), Abuja, the CP-SAT operatives, led by ASP Julius Robinson, apprehended a female suspect, Jamila Abubakar, at the Conoil Filling Station along Warri–Patani Road in Effurun.

Officers discovered ₦550,000 in cash concealed beneath her bag, suspected to be proceeds from illicit dealings. Her arrest triggered a follow-up operation that led to a breakthrough.

On October 22, 2025, at approximately 7:25 a.m., the team stormed the Niger-Cat area of Warri and arrested Ahmed Ibrahim, a 31-year-old male from Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area. Ibrahim, described as a notorious arms dealer, was found in possession of a bag containing 115 rounds of 7.63mm AK-47 live ammunition, 220 rounds of SMG rifle ammunition, and 32 live cartridges.

Preliminary investigations revealed Ibrahim’s alleged role as a key supplier of weapons to bandit groups operating in northern Nigeria. He has been on the Command’s watch list for his suspected involvement in multiple high-profile kidnapping and armed robbery cases. Notably, he is linked to the abduction and murder of Ogheneovo Onemu, who was kidnapped on May 17, 2024, in Ajaokuta Community, Ughelli North LGA, and killed despite a ₦4 million ransom payment.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, hailed the arrests as a significant milestone in the Command’s ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and dismantle criminal networks. He reaffirmed the Police’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Delta State and called on residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to aid law enforcement efforts.
The Command urged the public to report suspicious activities via its control room hotlines:
• 08036684974
• 08114895600
• 08025666914
