A wave of grief and tension has gripped the Oloka community in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following a deadly assault on the National Park Service office.
Suspected bandits launched an attack on the facility on Tuesday, resulting in the reported deaths of at least five forest guards.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the development during a telephone briefing with NTA News. State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, stated that the incident has prompted an immediate and high-level security response.
According to the spokesperson, Oyo State Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna, accompanied by various service chiefs, is currently en route to the affected park to conduct a firsthand assessment of the situation and coordinate the ongoing investigation.
To prevent further escalations and track the perpetrators, Commissioner Haruna has ordered the immediate mobilisation of the command’s resources.
The deployment includes specialised tactical teams, officers from the Mobile Police Force, and experts from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) unit of the Nigeria Police Force.
While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, DSP Olayinka assured the public that security agencies are working tirelessly to restore order and secure the region.
He emphasised that the situation is being closely monitored and promised to provide further updates as more information becomes available.
