Troops of the Joint Task Force under Operation Whirl Stroke have dislodged a suspected terrorist syndicate operating in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, recovering a large cache of ammunition and logistics items during a raid.
The operation, carried out by Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke, followed credible intelligence on the activities of a notorious bandit leader reportedly operating from a hideout at Mtan Village in Utange Council Ward of Katsina-Ala LGA.
Security sources said troops advanced to the location after confirming the intelligence, where they encountered armed terrorists. A gun battle reportedly ensued, forcing the criminals to abandon the enclave and flee.
During a follow-up search of the area, troops recovered two motorcycles believed to belong to the bandit leader, eight magazines, 162 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm special ammunition, 10 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition, 44 rounds of 9mm ammunition, as well as links of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and seven empty 7.62mm NATO cartridge casings. A red Toyota vehicle found at the scene was also disabled to prevent its use for further criminal operations.
The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Moses Gara, commended the intelligence team for providing timely and actionable information that led to the success of the operation. He also praised the troops for demonstrating professionalism and tactical efficiency during the encounter.
Gara emphasised the need for continuous cooperation between security agencies and local communities, urging residents to provide credible information to security forces. He noted that prompt intelligence remains vital in tackling terrorism and other criminal activities in the region.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to restore peace and stability across affected communities.
