Troops Smash Terrorist Strongholds in Zamfara as Operation Fansan Yamma Intensifies

-

Nigerian troops have struck another significant blow against banditry in the Northwest. Soldiers attached to Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma launched a series of high-stakes clearance operations across Zamfara State in the early hours of Monday, dismantling multiple hideouts used by armed groups to terrorise the region.

The offensive focused on notorious flashpoints within the Talata Mafara and Maradun Local Government Areas. Pushing through tough terrain, the troops targeted enclaves in Maikwanuga, Aljumma, Gidan Dawa, and Magami Didi. The mission reached a climax in Tungar Magaji, where soldiers engaged a group of terrorists in a fierce firefight. Utilizing superior firepower, the troops neutralized two insurgents on the spot, while several others narrowly escaped into the thick forest undergrowth, abandoning their equipment in the chaos.

A tactical sweep of the immediate area following the skirmish led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a fully loaded magazine containing 30 rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle used by the criminals for rapid movement.

Military officials confirmed that these raids are part of a broader, sustained campaign specifically designed to clear the Bagega–Sunke forest corridor, a known transit route and sanctuary for kidnap-for-ransom syndicates.

Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, emphasised that the military remains steadfast in its mission to protect civilian lives. He also called on residents to act as the “eyes and ears” of the security forces by reporting suspicious movements to help sustain this momentum.
