Nigerian Ex-Senator Elisha Abbo in Police Custody Over Alleged Rape of 13-Year-Old Girl

-

A former Nigerian senator,  Elisha Abbo, is currently in police custody after surrendering to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja. His arrest follows disturbing allegations that he raped a 13-year-old student at his residence in Katampe on June 29, 2025.

According to the victim’s parents, Abbo attempted to silence the family by offering money to the girl’s father.

The family also accused Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, popularly known as Binani, of visiting them in an attempt to discourage the public from pursuing the case.

Police sources confirmed that Abbo remains detained at the FCID headquarters, where investigators are interrogating him. A senior officer stated that the case is being treated with utmost seriousness, adding that “no stone will be left unturned.”

This is not Abbo’s first brush with controversy. In 2019, he faced public backlash after a viral video showed him assaulting a saleswoman in an Abuja shop. More recently, he was accused of attempting to blackmail a married woman using an intimate video.

The latest allegations have ignited outrage among rights groups and women’s organisations. The Child Protection Network in Lagos described the case as “a test for Nigeria’s criminal justice system,” urging law enforcement to resist political interference and ensure justice is served.

Abbo, who lost his Senate seat following a 2023 court ruling, has remained in the public eye more for scandals than legislative accomplishments. His arrest has sparked heated online debates, with many Nigerians demanding swift prosecution.
As of press time, neither Abbo nor his legal representatives have issued any public statement.
