The Police Service Commission (PSC) has commended the Nigeria Police Force for what it described as a professional and orderly performance during the Osun State governorship election held on August 15, 2026.
The commendation is contained in the Commission’s harmonised interim report following its monitoring of police conduct across the state’s three senatorial districts—Osun Central, Osun East and Osun West.
According to the report, police deployment was adequate and strategic, with an average of four officers assigned to each polling unit. The PSC said polling units in Osun Central had an average of three officers, while those in Osun East and Osun West recorded an average of five officers each.
The Commission also praised the collaboration between the police and other security agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Armed Forces, and other agencies, describing the cooperation as cordial and instrumental to the peaceful conduct of the election.
Leader of the PSC Monitoring Team, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Taiwo Lakanu, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of officers during the exercise.
He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for what he described as an effective deployment strategy.
Lakanu said, “The effective deployment strategy, which had DIG Isyaku Mohammed as the Election DIG and CP Samuel Erale Etaifo as the Election CP, alongside other experienced officers, culminated in the successful conduct of the election.”
The report further noted that officers across the three senatorial districts were “generally courteous, approachable and professional,” maintaining order and responding appropriately to inquiries from the Commission’s monitoring teams.
“The Nigeria Police Force exhibited a high level of professionalism, orderliness and cordiality during the election,” the PSC stated, adding that it would continue to provide oversight to ensure police conduct during elections aligns with established professional standards.
